Here are a few quotes from some past, present and future customers
I recently visited AO to purchase ski equipment and I must say that I was very impressed with the knowledge and expertise of the staff. I initially dealt with a staff member who helped me select a pair of boots. At the time, the store did not have my ski size in stock. Instead of turning me away, she contacted another AO location and had arranged to have the skis transferred to the Haliburton location. The next day I returned to the store and met with Rob. Rob took the time to ensure I was equipped with the correct size skis and poles. Rob took the time to explain the features and benefits of the skis he brought in. I was very happy that Rob ensured the equipment was fitted correctly. I truly feel that Rob is an asset to AO and I look forward to returning to AO to upgrade my son’s snowboard gear.
A great solo outing in the bush testing out a new Esker Classic 2 (10×10) and burning in a new Esker Ontario 2 woodstove from @algonquinoutfitters for @yours_outdoors. My thanks to Gavin and @natemuskoka from AO for the excellent customer service.
WE’RE READY TO ROCK n’ ROLL ACROSS THE SNOW!!
Picked up a couple of pairs of cross country skis, boots & poles from @algonquinoutfitters in Huntsville. Want to give a shoutout to Gavin in the store who was exceptionally knowledgeable, friendly and made our purchase pretty darn smooth… hopefully, like the snow we’re going to ski on soon! And well… we couldn’t resist this #Kuma outdoor folding “HEATED” loveseat. Perfect for chilly nights by the campfire. Thanks a bunch, Algonquin Outfitters, we’ll definitely be back!
My family and I love camping – possibly to the extreme. I once won a three-day canoe trip for 4 via Algonquin Outfitters, and it changed our lives (for the better!).
Purchased my snowshoes from Algonquin Outfitters Haliburton !!! I had amazing customer service from all staff, and great knowledge ! So helpful. They give such awesome customer attention and focus, and such a wealth of information to help you move forward.
Had an awesome day-trip experience with Algonquin Outfitters. Shout out to Charles, my guide, who was absolutely fabulous – right on down to the freshly brewed espresso! Thanks for showing me the ins and out of portaging. Best day of the year. Hope to see you again soon.
Wow… Really nice folks renting really nice gear… And a very beautiful spot on the planet to paddle…
Not sure, but I might like this better than paddling on Lake Ontario

We have just returned from a 3-day trip to Opeongo Lake from July 12-14 2021.
A particular “thank you” to Colin and Ryan (I hope I got the names right) who piloted our water taxis to and from the site on Bates Island. They were exceptionally helpful and knowledgeable and helped to make the trip memorable.
The cheerfulness and positive attitudes of the store staff who provided service with a smile were so refreshing!
Malik will be returning in a week with another group but we wish to express our appreciation of your service. We will most definitely be making another trip to Opeongo and hope to see you soon.
Thank you.

My son and I were totally impressed with the canoe, stability was great in open lakes and maneuverability in tight areas easy. The portaging was super easy, having portaged heavy canoes in the past we were blown away with the super light Keewaydin 16. #beauty#paddle#Ontariopic.twitter.com/xYQINNhXzI
Big shout out to @ao_huntsville for doing a refurb on the young farmer’s snowshoes for us just in time for tapping! We ❤️ this store for all their amazing outdoor gear and super knowledgeable and kind staff. It’s our local go-to spot for all the fun and functional outdoor things we buy!
Testing out the new cross country skiis. @algonquinoutfitters in Haliburton has it all. Enjoy the sunshine, it helps you forget how cold it is!! Oh, and that’s our Christmas tree plunked in the snowbank beside the rink.

More then satisfied with my quick and friendly service today. Needed a last minute birthday present and without being able to shop in the store they found me exactly what I was looking for. Easy from the moment I told them what I wanted to picking up. Thank you!
“We ordered skis over the phone a few weeks ago and picked them up from the Huntsville store curbside on December 23rd. We bought a pair of Altai skis and two pairs of KAR 147s. We didn’t even know these kinds of skis existed, and your employee took the time to really listen to what I was looking for and gave me excellent guidance and took the time to call around to the other stores to make sure there would be something that worked for my 9-year old. We all absolutely love our skis and we have been having so much fun with them! This is the most comfortable I’ve seen my kid on skis. She’s zipping around! Your recommendations were spot-on. We also really appreciate that you were offering curbside pick up even before the lockdown started.
This has been a challenging year and we are far from family that we cannot go visit because of travel restrictions. The skis you sold us have helped turn this holiday season into a really fun one, which we didn’t expect. You helped us find ways of having fun outside, and we are grateful! (I’ve also raved about the skis to all of my friends and told them about the excellent service we’ve gotten from you. I’m sure we’ll shop with you again, and we look forward to it!) I wish all of you a happy new year. We plan to ring it in outside, having fun on our skis. Thanks again!
Regards,
O P

Even when you’ve been living in another country for 20 years, when you’re an immigrant, you just can’t shake the feeling that you don’t belong; you always feel as though the role of a “Canadian” is preserved for only people who’ve been born in that country, into that community. It doesn’t feel great when you can’t fluently communicate in the language, as compared to your mother tongue.
.
On one of our camping trips, at Algonquin park, we had to take a water taxi to get to our campsite.
The driver of the water taxi was a young Canadian, in his twenties, maybe thirties.
On the way, he said: “can I ask what language you’re speaking in?” I responded, “Farsi”. He said that it is very beautiful. He then went on about how even though French is mandatory in schools here, when you don’t use is frequently, you eventually forget it; and how he would’ve liked to be like most Canadians, to be bilingual.
With that said, I was sure by “most Canadians”, he meant immigrants.
I was so touched that I just wanted to hug him. I wanted to say, thank you. Thank you for sharing your country with us and for counting us as one of you.
I mean, yeah we are all citizens of this Country and we’re working in it and we are all partners in making it better; and according to the law, we are no different. But it just feels extremely heartwarming when the people of that country see you as their own and actually seem to care about you too.
.
All in all, I said all this, to show how one person, warmed my heart forever, with just one simple sentence. How great it is to be kind. How great it is to make life easier for each other, simply with our words.

It felt very Canadian to travel and camp here. The entire experience has encouraged us to take a hard look at how we camp. Highly recommend @algonquinoutfitters to get you on your way: they pay extremely close attention to detail, and their advice/information is second to none. Shout out to staff members Sarah and Jess who were both top-notch ???? #richestravel2020

We came in on Sunday 10 minutes before close and interested in looking at bikes not sure if we were actually going to buy one. The staff at the store were very helpful especially the fact that there is Covid going on. We were helped out by both Jeremy and Carlee who are very helpful and I just wanted to say thank you for making our first visit an experience to remember. since the service was so good we ended up actually buying the bike and Now the wife has a better bike than me but that’s OK!, and that just means ill be due for some upgrades and modifications in the future. Thank you Carlee for staying back after closing time, and helping my wife figure out what she needed so we can enjoy biking together in Algonquin for the upcoming season. I would recommend Algonquin outfitters to anyone stopping by the area and great customer service. You guys are the best in town!
“My go-to store for anything related to the outdoors! Algonquin Outfitters has such a wide variety of high-quality products that you really can’t go wrong here. They always ensure to have plenty of staff members on hand to help you out and find exactly what you are looking for. I have bought many pairs of shoes and flip flops here and they have all lasted me for several years. I also love being able to rent a canoe from the store and go for a paddle down the river and explore some more of beautiful Huntsville. It is always a fun outing to do with friends and family from out of town. This store is one not to be missed on our Main Street!” – Caroline

A huge thank you to Algonquin Outfitters for outfitting our first backcountry trip, but for also giving me the summer of a lifetime. Thanks for the crazy times, friends that turned into family, and the experience. I couldn’t have asked for anything else this summer. #findyourselfhere #OPpartner #ontarioparks #healthyparkshealthypeople
My sister and I would like to say thank you for the amazing canoe that we rented from you recently, being 67 and 64 years of age it was a so easy to lift and carry on the portage into Booth Lake from Kitty Lake. The last time I had canoed to the interior was 15 years ago and was a little nervous on how we could carry all the weight of gear and canoe, but it worked out well.
It did start off at Algonquin Outfitters with the exceptional staff that looked after us, we thank all that we spoke to help make this return to the interior such a success. It proved that at my age of 67 I can continue the passion of canoe tripping into the wilds of Algonquin Park
All the best to everyone

Why has the Tay House Troop 19 been coming to Algonquin Park for decades?
Oct 4, 2018
Dear Rich, Gord, Colin, and the Entire Algonquin Outfitters Team,
On behalf of Tay House Troop 19 and the Highlanders, I want to thank you for all that you and your team did to help make our 2018 Algonquin Canoe Trip a success. We continue to return to Oxtongue Lake as our start/end point for the Canoe trip – and Greatly appreciate the relationship we have built with AO. As I stepped out of the car this year, Colin greeted me as if I was just there last week which testament to the welcoming environment AO provides to it’s clients – even if eh was apprehensive of having to bail us out like in 2016!
Our trip started in between the rain clouds -and we greatly appreciate the upgrade t o the tent cabin as well as the use of your propane grill for our soggy first night meal. The rest of the trip was a great success (compared to the misadventures of 2016) – even if we are threading the needle between storms as we went along. Our canoes, paddles, PDF’s and accommodations all lived up to your excellent reputation.
Thank you to the entire AO team for all your help and support. Once again the crew was in awe when Rich, Gord and Colin all knew us by sight – and it is great to be able to speak to the extent of our history working together. We look forward to our next trip – and cannot wait to get back up to the park for our next adventure!
Sincerely,

Out group of 5 went camping at Algonquin over the long weekend of August, and we could not find any canoes north of Barrie. Jenny and Carly helped me along to make reservations with their 2 canoes remaining, and made sure that our group was well taken care of when loading the canoes on my vehicle. The staff was extremely friendly, helpful all the way, accommodated late returns of equipment, and were happy to exchange our equipment for the better ones they had in stock. Definitely coming back and recommending to all my friends!
This store is great. They have kayak and canoe rental, water taxi service and any of the last miniute provisions for your back country trip. For example, rope, chairs, water bottles, bags, trinkets, patches, walking sticks, sleeping bags, tents, tarps and much more. The staff is very friendly and willing to help. Some of the products are slightly marked up due to distance and convenience and you should expect that.

Best place around! Been there many times .. they won’t let you down.
i would say you guys are the wind beneath my wings, but it would be more like the boat beneath my butt… sounds more like a weird Al song. Maybe old school country western?
Thanks so much to @algonquinoutfit for the water taxi! Able to have a great first interior trip with a 3y/o and not spending a day on Opeongo! Your service was amazing!!
We stopped by this restaurant while photographing moose in the park and were pleasantly surprised. There was a large variety and the food was delicious. The staff were very friendly. I will be back.
Lake of Two Rivers Cafe is a great place to grab a meal or some ice cream while camping with the family. We go almost daily when we are camping in the park. Recently I discovered JERRIES JIANT DATE AND BERRY SQUARES! Home made by Jerrie, they are delicious. Served with a scoop of ice cream even better! If you are staying in Algonquin or even just driving through the HWY 60 corridor make sure you stop in at the Lake of Two Rivers Cafe & Grill. I’ll be waiting for the doors to open again in May!!
I’ve used the outfitter service in the Park (Algonquin) but this store in Huntsville is my go-to place for outdoor gear. Very good selection of camping, skiing, canoeing, and biking gear. Want stands out is the quality of staff knowledge. Seems the folks who work here, actually get outdoors and walk the walk. Worthwhile to visit and window shop.
- Good selection, knowledgeable staff, reasonable prices…
If you are in Muskoka and need any type of outfitting gear or even just some sunscreen, this is the place to go. AO is a staple in Muskoka. A must place to check out!
My wife and I were on holiday in the Algonquin area of Ontario Canada during June 2017. I had a major issue with an item of clothing that I had brought with me from the UK. I hoped the shop could resolve the problem with an ‘off the shelf’ solution, however this was not possible and I was about to leave the shop disappointed. However, Lynn Mitson, the person in charge of the shop that day said, “I think I can fix that for you”. She guided me down to the workshop and after half an hour the problem was fixed, and no charge. We were only too pleased to buy some items from the shop in thanks. Lynn exuded a typical display of Canadian hospitality for which I was very grateful. Shop at Algonquin Outfitters and you will be guaranteed excellent service.

Visit this this outdoor equipment store every time we are in the area. It has a wide variety of outdoor related items including camping related summer and winter clothes, equipment for biking, swimming, skiing, camping and much much more… Outback you can also rent canoes & kayaks, paddle boats and bikes for a leisurely afternoon. Staff are very helpful and friendly.
Rented a road bike for a long weekend. Service by the staff was professional and kind, with quick e-mail response and helpful phone service beforehand. The bikes are in very good condition, and next to the helmet enought stuff is included to help you with small problems on a road like a flat tire. I would recommend you bring your own pedals and cycling shoes, as the bike is equipped with flat pedals – and you will like to be clicked in on the hilly roads. The staff were happy to put my pedals on as part of the service. They have maps to get you started on route selection, although I would recommend loading your route into an app like strava or bikegpx. In short: good value, great service and a fantastic environment to ride a bike!
I have to include both the Huntsville location and Oxtongue. We went to Ox location to rent a stand up paddle board. They were out. But told us they would call when one came available. I also called Huntsville, they said the same. Within 2 hours Ox called. They had one! Amazing! Got there picked it up, they gave great advice on the tie down too. Paddle board = super fun. My 60 year old dad an avid kayaker loved it too. Rent for two days, the second day you’ll be a pro! Give yourself a day to really learn and one to enjoy! On the second day, the Huntsville store called! Amazing customer service! Book in advance even if its a week day. Enjoy!
Right before Algonquin west gate. This is a retail and rental store for adventure sports. They have huge rental set up for canoe and kayak which was impressive. staff is extremely helpful and friendly. It was my first experience for kayak and they helped me and my family for the basics. Lake Oxtongue is just ok. Left side one hour tour is beautiful.
Canoeing in the far reaches of Opeongo Lake is something to experience. We were taken in fast water taxi from the Outfitters store for a journey of about 15 minutes. Then dropped off in complete isolation and we watched the taxi disappear. At that pint we were standing on a damp piece of ground that about 20 feet wide. But we had 3 canoes. We then canoed further into nowhere and back for about 3 hours. We saw beaver lodges, turtles and bullfrogs but no moose this time. Lots of bird life. And saw a Hummingbird Clearwing moth. Masses of colourful flowers. But its the peace and scale of the beautiful wilderness that I’ll remember. We were aged 13-52 with no real canoeing experience to speak of. The water has no real flow; certainly no white water or rapids. We had glorious weather with a bit of a head wind on the way out. Never felt unsafe. Our guide, Emily, was a pleasure; very knowledgeable and friendly. Thanks again Emily! Told us to clap hands in the woods when we went to the loo, in case of bears. Everyone held it! 🙂
My eight year old daughter and I flew from Vancouver Island (where there are no moose) to Ottawa for a week of Canada Day festivities, with a three day trip to Algonquin Park in the middle with the specific goal of seeing moose, our favourite animal, which neither of us had ever seen aside from one that I’d seen briefly in Quebec when I was a child. As we were coming across the country, travelling light, we couldn’t camp, so rather than an overnight canoe trip, I did some research and determined a guided canoe day trip with Algonquin Outfitters was our best bet. Thankfully, on our way to meet our guide at the Opeongo Lake store at 6:45 AM, we saw a beautiful cow moose in a wooded marsh, and took some beautiful photos. The pressure was off! However, I can’t say enough wonderful things about our guided trip through the marshy creek at the end of Opeongo Lake. We went in to two canoes, with our guide Emily in one canoe with another guest, and my daughter and me in a second canoe (I’m very experienced). After a 20 minute ride across the lake in a water taxi (motor boat with canoes on top), we entered the marshy creek. We paddled for about 90 minutes, seeing no moose, but Emily pointed out turtles, hawks, and we saw countless active beaver lodges. On our way back to the meet-up point, we saw something far up creek, and we all thought it might be another large beaver lodge, until we saw it move, and up out of the marsh came a large set of antlers. We paddled like Olympians to get close, and we ended up viewing this huge bull moose from about 50 meters away for about five minutes. For my daughter and me, it was a dream come true to see a bull moose, in a marsh, eating lily pads, two days before Canada Day. Emily knew where the moose might be, and got us to that spot. It was perfect. It really could not have been a more perfect trip. If your time is limited, or you’re not an expert paddler, and if you want to put yourself in the best position to see moose, definitely do a guided day trip with Algonquin Outfitters. Emily helped create memories that will truly last a lifetime.
The Opeongo water taxi literally saved our lives on the first day of our back country canoe trip on Lake Opeongo. We arrived to treacherous waters (whitecaps and a report of a capsized canoe) and decided to pay the $65 for the taxi to take the two of us (plus our dog) to our site. We had no idea how big the lake was! Our driver patiently took us all over the south arm of the lake, but we couldn’t find a vacant camp site despite having a reservation. She even more patiently provided first aid to my foot when I cut it while we stopped to pick up other passengers! She didn’t give up trying to find us a campsite after this pickup and finally found one for us to stay on en route back to the Outfitters. I just wished I remembered her name! Additionally, all other staff we encountered at the Outfitters were just as pleasant and efficient as she was. Thanks guys! Be mindful that the weather on this lake can change quickly & dramatically – know the sheer size of this lake and plan a back country trip that matches your abilities and time available. It may not be a bad idea to plan for an extra day on your Lake Opeongo back country route in case you have bad weather. Trust me, you don’t want to be canoeing on this lake if that happens! Weather withstanding, expect an amazing experience that you will always remember. And don’t forget to have a delicious (and generous!) scoop of Kawartha dairy ice cream from the Outfitters store when you return from your adventure!
We rented two Swift Kevlar canoes for a 6 day trip. Good equipment and knowledgeable. Picked up some last minute/forgotten items in the store. Well recommended.
My wife and I rented a deluxe outfitting package for a weekend on Opeongo Lake and the only disappointment we experienced was having to come back! The service was fantastic: We only needed to bring our personal belongings (clothes, binoculars, etc.) and Algonquin Outfitters provided the rest. The gear that they gave us was good quality, well-packed and ready for us when we arrived. The food they provided was organized into meals that were easy to prepare and clean up after. (This is incredibly helpful for backcountry newbies like us.) The staff (Candace, Colin) were friendly and helpful with answering our questions. We took a water taxi up to the North Arm and then paddled back over the next couple days, taking some scenic side trips to Hailstorm Creek and Marmot Lake. If you have never tried backcountry camping, I would strongly recommend using these outfitters! We will definitely be back. I have one other recommendation since some of the negative reviews here seem to be fixated on wind/weather/canoeing-with-toddlers, etc. There are some very short (<5 mins) and helpful how-to videos on youtube that teach canoeing basics such as a J-stroke. If you’ve never tried canoeing, check these out before you paddle! Canoeing is simple and fun, but it can be frustrating if you just push out onto the water (and into the wind) without knowing how to paddle. I know this because I’ve done it!
Admin – Be sure to check out our how to videos, Brian gave us a great tip and we’re going to look into producing more how to videos.
Whats to say then the best canoes, the best service, the best staff. The store is great but could have more variety. Drop in the Huntsville store if you cant find it here.
After over 30 years of tripping there is no place better to start or end a trip then AO.

“People in Ontario can’t stop talking about the beauty of Algonquin Park, and I agree with them. Our trip there this past summer was amazing. I’ve never stopped to wonder how it looks in the winter though, beyond picturing a big “CLOSED FOR THE SEASON” sign over the entrance gate. Saturday might go down in my record books as one of those pivotal days. On the surface it was nothing more than fun – a 4-hour snowshoe trip through the Track and Tower trail in the park. In the long-term outlook though, it was the day I finally “got it”. I’ve always looked at snowshoeing as an end in itself. You strap on snowshoes and you walk around because it’s neat to have snowshoes on. Yesterday I learned that it’s actually the means to an end, and the end is: hiking in the winter. Epiphany! Winter sports! What a fantastic concept! You don’t have to batten down the hatches and count the days until spring.”
