Tom Thomson Paddle Art Contest
Our Tom Thomson Paddle Art Auction started it’s life back on Friday June 3rd 2016 when it was announced as our Tom Thomson Paddle Art Contest at our showing of the Reel Paddling Film Festival at the Algonquin Theatre. Four hundred and eighty-four (484) days later on Friday Sept 29th 2017, it’s all coming to an end with our Tom Thomson Paddle Art Auction. It’s truly been an amazing adventure along the way. We’ve received more than double the expected number of paddles and our online auction bids have already surpassed the $10,000 goal to raise funds for Oxtongue Lake for Arts and Culture (OLAC) and the Town of Huntsville’s reserve fund for future public art acquisition.
With such great response we are giving it some serious consideration to hosting this event again in the future.
We’ve discovered and developed many great relationships along the way with amazing organizations and people. Probably the best part of this promotion has been these relationships. So many people reached out to us to be involved in celebrating Tom Thomson’s 100th anniversary, Art and Culture in Algonquin Park, Haliburton Highlands, and Muskoka. So many artists and people that discovered that they may have a little art blood running through their vanes, picking up a brush, knife, torch or other tool to create their first or hundredth work of art. So many people surprised and amazed us with just how creative they can be.
