Snapping TurtleJoin this exciting workshop and accompany wildlife researchers into the field as they attempt to unravel the mysteries of the plants and animals of Algonquin Park. Experience first-hand the science behind wildlife research as you explore techniques used in both field and remote laboratory settings. Limited to just 12 participants, this Experience Algonquin Workshop offered by The Friends of Algonquin Park includes meals and accommodations at the historic Wildlife Research Station.

Participants during past Wildlife Research Weekends have discovered more about: flying squirrels; Red Squirrels; Painted and Snapping Turtles; salamanders; frogs and toads; mice, voles, shrews; Gray Jays; forest songbirds; wolves; bears; forest insects; and more. Each year a different variety of research projects are shared with participants based upon active research projects. This workshop offers a unique opportunity to interact with wildlife researchers and gain expert instruction on field techniques and the study species.

The Wildlife Research Station, established in 1944, has hosted significant ecological research projects, including North America’s longest continuous study of small mammal distribution and abundance in forest habitats and Canada’s longest ongoing life history research project on turtles.
