Quintessential Canadian Paddling Trips in Algonquin and Killarney Provincial Parks
Ted East and Randy Mitson, Ontario Tourism
You’ll discover the true essence of the Canadian Canoe Culture on these incredible journeys into two of Canada’s most spectacular Provincial Parks.
A canoe tripper could spend a lifetime exploring Algonquin Park. Covering approximately 3500 square miles of rugged Canadian Shield, the park is home to an abundance of wildlife, unspoiled lakes and rivers and incredible scenery. Explore its best canoe routes with Algonquin Outfitters.
Often called the “crown jewel” of Ontario’s Park system, Killarney’s inland lakes, white quartzite ridges and rugged landscape are best explored by canoe and hiking. The turquoise waters of Georgian Bay, a UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve, offer unparalleled sea kayaking adventures. Killarney Outfitters will provide insiders tips on the best places to paddle.
“If it is love that binds people to places in this nation of rivers and in this river of nations then one enduring expression of that simple truth, is surely the canoe.” – James Raffan, adventurer, acclaimed author and Director Emeritus of the Canadian Canoe Museum. Is there anything more Canadian than paddling? ‘Ontario’ is an Iroquoian word meaning ‘land of shining waters’. With over 400,000 lakes, countless rivers and heritage waterways in Ontario, we are connected by and to water and the Canoe is a symbol of that relationship. Discover the different ways Ontarians have connected to our natural environment, each other and themselves through paddling. This film captures the human connection and bond created by Canada’s well-known craft & symbol, the canoe. Through the stories of five paddlers across the province of Ontario, Canada – a majestic background both in it’s landscape & history – the film underscores the strength of the human spirit and how the canoe can be a vessel for creating deep and meaningful connections.
