Storm the TrentVoted for nine years by readers of Get Out There Magazine as Eastern Canada’s ‘best adventure race,’ Storm the Trent is the nation’s largest and most inclusive weekend gathering of multi-sport adventurers. Three separate races are offered to provide you with the widest possible range of racecourse options; including the beginner-friendly ‘Hike’ short-course, the intermediate-level ‘Trek’ long-course, as well as the ‘Trek Elite’ advanced course.

We are immensely excited to unveil our first-ever Haliburton edition of Storm the Trent for 2018.  We will be re-locating 16 years of STT tradition to an all-new host region this year, enabling racers to explore some fantastically fun new areas not seen since the earliest beginnings of adventure racing in Ontario.  Up to 700 participants will experience this beautifully scenic racecourse and the diverse terrain that shapes it, competing in their choice of 3 entirely separate events featuring 3 levels of difficulty:

Hike 3-5 Hour Short Course

The original “my first” AR event! Storm Racing has been offering introductory-level adventure races since 2002, and we know what it takes to make the formula work. Take a highly-organized race staff team, a friendly and supportive crew of volunteers, and the unparalleled sense of racer camaraderie generated at each event, and you have what is easily the most achievable and enjoyable multi-sport challenge in Ontario!

Our short-course event is specifically designed to create a fun day of off-road racing suitable for a wide range of fitness and ability levels. Solo racers and teams of two or four will make their way by boat, on foot and by bike across a clearly-defined racecourse made up of both marked and unmarked sections. Finish times typically range anywhere between three to five hours.

2018 will be a monumental year for Storm the Trent, as we open the doors to the vast and wild terrain of the Haliburton Highlands. This is Shield Country at its finest, and the rugged landscape, rolling hills and abundance of lakes and wetlands set a spectacular backdrop for adventure race course design. Racers will be treated to some incredibly scenic flatwater paddling; non-technical mountain biking on trail and backroad routes; and beautiful trail running through thoroughly-mapped trail networks. Complete details are provided in the racer information package below.

‘Trek’ 4-7 Hour Long Course

The Storm the Trent ‘Trek’ course is designed to bridge the gap between our beginner and advanced-level race formats. The middle ground of our event formula, these races are created to be challenging, but achievable. While generally less intensive than the Trek Elite course, they still make for a very solid day of multi-sport adventuring. As a result, Trek events tend to draw a diverse mix of racer types, ranging from weekend warriors to seasoned athletes, and anyone in between!

‘The ‘Trek’ race is uniquely formatted to offer just the right balance of adventure racing elements without the requirement of advanced-level navigation skills. Solo racers and teams of two or four will make their way by boat, on foot and by bike across a clearly-defined racecourse made up of both marked and unmarked sections. Finish times typically range anywhere between four to seven hours.

This racecourse has been formulated to offer the perfect mix of mental and physical challenge, teamwork and decision-making, as well as speed and endurance.

A total of 80km will be covered over a course that brings together the best of all that the host region has to offer. Solo racers and teams of two or four will pass through a series of checkpoints featuring both marked and unmarked sections, with options for strategizing their route choice to maximize speed and efficiency.
