Radical Reels Tour

Every year, the Banff Mountain Film and Book Festival presents the wildly popular Radical Reels night – a presentation of the best high-adrenaline films entered into the Banff Mountain Film and Book Festival competition. Inspired by the excitement of the Festival event, the Radical Reels Tour has been travelling with a selection of the hottest action sports films since 2004.

The Radical Reels Tour visits more than 65 locations across the US and Canada – from Vancouver to Vegas, Whitehorse to Winston-Salem, and dozens of happening towns in between. The majority of Radical Reels screenings take place in March and April, or September and October. Check our web listings for the latest show details. Many of the screenings, hosted by local organizations in each location, benefit not-for-profit and community organizations.

The tour also visits about 15 cities in Australia and 8 cities in Germany. Click here for more information on our international tour.

The Radical Reels program is made up of short, action-packed climbing, paddling, mountain biking, BASE jumping, skiing, snowboarding, and other adrenaline sport films. We always keep an eye out for films that feature a fresh approach, a new sport, and a radically independent spirit.

Films in the Festival

The Fledglings – 26 Mins
As longtime professional climbers who eat, sleep, and live the sport, Cedar Wright and Matt Segal are used to being competent, comfortable and at the top of their game.

Give Me Five – 10 Mins
Join a madcap group of French free falling flyers as they try to perform the aerial stunt of a lifetime in the Chamonix valley.

La Liste (Tour Edit) – 13 Mins
In his search to become a better freerider, Swiss ski phenom Jeremie Heitz compiles a list of the most interesting peaks to ride in the Alps. In the process, he meets the legends of the sport who teach him how to push the boundaries of free riding.

Locked In – 24 Mins
Deep in Papua New Guinea’s virgin rainforest, a team of kayakers attempt the first descent of the Beriman River. Sheer canyon walls rising 1500 meters from river level, no escape and rising water levels push the team to the edge in a 13-day descent from high in the Nakani Mountains to the Solomon Sea. This is as remote as river exploration comes in one of the deepest gorges in the South Pacific.

Not2Bad (Tour Edit) – 7 Mins
Anthill Films – the crew behind unReal and NotBad – bring you more wild shenanigans and unbelievable bike riding in Spain.

Sonnie Trotter vs. The Totem Pole – 8 Mins
Canadian climbers Sonnie Trotter and Will Stanhope head down under to take a stab at the first continuous, all free ascent of the Ewbank Route on The Totem Pole.

Tight Loose – The Tordrillos Foot-Powered Mission – 9 Mins
Ian McIntosh, Dane Tudor, and Griffin Post flew deep into the Tordrillo Mountains for a  month-long winter camping trip deep in the Alaskan wilderness. The goal: to climb and ski massive spines.

The Trail to Kazbegi – 16 Mins
What happens when four like-minded cyclists head into one of the world’s wildest mountain ranges with nothing but their mountain bikes and enough food to survive for 10 days?
