The Oxtongue Lake store is our main outfitting base and is located just
outside the main western entrance to Algonquin Park. Situated on Oxtongue
Lake, near the village of Dwight, it is about 30 minutes from Huntsville
on Highway 60. Established over 40 years ago by Bill Swift Sr. and his
family, the Oxtongue Lake base maintains the largest selection of outfitting
equipment, canoes and camping supplies.
Centrally located to canoe route access points both along Highway 60 and
on the west side of the park, the Oxtongue Lake store also offers outfitting
and rental services for backpacking, whitewater paddling and mountain
biking. Additionally, it is the home of the Swift Canoe Companys
Algonquin Canoe Store (open seasonally), where a wide variety of canoe
models are available for sale and test paddling.

water taxi offers the best access to the central area of Algonquin Park.
At the end of a 6 km (4 mile) road off Highway 60, the Opeongo area is
well known for some of the best trout fishing in Algonquin.
For canoeists or sea kayakers wishing a trip with no portages, the many
campsites dotting the bays and islands of the big lake offer a unique
alternative to a traditional lake and river route. A water taxi ride can
give your trip a head start by eliminating the 15-25 km paddle to the
main portages at the far end of the lake. Canoe, sea kayak and mountain
bike rentals are available and the store is well stocked with basic camping
supplies, groceries, snacks and souvenirs.

Opened in 1995, Algonquin Outfitters in Huntsville offers an interesting
combination of services. Primarily a specialty outdoor store, with the
emphasis on camping equipment, cross-country skiing, paddle sports, snowboarding,
bicycles, outdoor clothing and footwear, this locations main focus
is serving the local and tourist population in the Huntsville area. Canoe
rentals and outfitting services are available at the Huntsville location
but, due to space limitations, the store can only keep about 30 canoes
on hand. This location is very convenient for Algonquin Park visitors
needing canoes for trips to the west and northwest areas of the park,
starting at access points like Rain L., Magnetewan L., Tim R. and Kawawaymog
L. The fully-equipped bike shop in Huntsville not only provides excellent
service to local customers, but also allows Algonquin Outfitters to maintain
a large fleet of rental bikes.
